SARAH // CHANTILLY LACE

Jacket & Blouse & Purse vintage // Slip forever 21 // Shoes Steve Madden

Vintage wins today. I woke up feeling extra girly and decided to layer up on these little white embroidered pieces I have lying around my closet. Sometimes putting an outfit together has nothing to do with what works, instead I just choose pieces based on my personality that morning and then layer them up. I spent the afternoon drinking tea in the Japanese Garden at Golden Gate Park so you could say I fit in quite nicely.
I'm in a thrifting phase at the moment and I find myself being severely uninspired by all the brand name stuff out there today. My workout routine for 2016 includes diving deep into five dollar bins and doing laps around racks and racks of one-ofs. Shopping has never felt so rewarding.

HANNAH // DISH & DU/ER

Dish & DU/ER jeans // Topshop top & shoes // H&M moto // Free People hat // vintage bandana // Pour la Victoire bag

We are in the dying stages of winter right now, and in Vancouver that means its raining/overcast every day. My 8 AM classmates may not believe me, but I too go through the struggle every morning of debating whether or not it is appropriate to go to school in a blanket burrito and slippers. Peering out my curtains everymorning to find the same old Vancouver rain is just about enough to have me fishing through the remains of lululemon leggings i set fire to circa 2010 at my parents house.
Luckily I ran into the Dish denim pop up shop here in Vancouver before any workout pants were removed from the trash. The rad team there let me test drive a pair of their Pebble Grey skinnies made with their new N2X material. Dish & DU/ER uses fabric that has comfort and stretch without sacrificing  the look of classic denim. They are also a Vancouver company so their lightweight fabric really was made for our west coat weather. I'm styling my Dish jeans here with a mix of neutrals and my vintage bandana.

Lately I have been finding solace in outfits that I think represent ME. It's easy to get wrapped up in normcore trends and I often find myself guilty of emulating that Minimalist Instagram Girl style (You know who I'm talking about.. the one that wears a blanket scarf and Nike Frees in ALL her photos?). Sometimes you just need something to pull you out of that fashion rut; A new accessory, a different hair style or maybe its a mustard-yellow paisley shirt that you found in the bottom of a five dollar bin at your local thrift shop. Fashion is all about individuality, but its okay to hand the wheel off to something new if all you're doing is driving in circles. Don't be afraid to let that your crazy grandmother('s shirt from the 70's) take you for a spin; It could lead you down a path you never would have considered on your own. "Personal" style may imply sticking to your own, but that doesn't mean you should confine yourself within the walls of your comfort zone. How can you develop a personality if you're too afraid to swap out your vans for a pair of heels every once and a while?

Special thanks to Josh Egal. Collaborating with him was not only fun, but he completely brought this look to life and it was such a gift to have worked with him!
